STORIES FROM THE SLUMS

Rosario Cavite Team – August 2018

Ministry Highlights

Sister Irma F. Sonido, 60 years old, wife of Pastor Ruelito Sonido, our partner in Muzon, Rosario Cavite, joined us in our feeding program in poverty stricken families in the areas, but we call the place “dreamland”. She was stroked last April 3, 2018, it was her 3rd attack but God is merciful  She survived. God gave her a chance to serve Him, she was in therapy for a month and through that experience she appreciate every movement she made progressively but after those session she still have a hard time using both of her legs.

She was a volunteer teacher in our feeding program. The place for where we had feeding was not established yet, we temporarily sheltered in a small chapel. The was wet and very uncomfortable for her condition. Her exact words were “Is this all worth dying for?” because she was really frustrated. Then when Nurse Noemi from CCMP our partner in feeding program came wet and cold too but she has this smile in her face, seems she was not bothered in storm. She began to tell her that it’s alright, “had seen worse place than this then sister Irma”, sister Irma was encouraged and realized that she was complaining to God.

The mothers and the children arrived, we had a short orientation because of the bad weather, and we gave the food.  And also the Barangay Captain who let us used one of their rooms in the second floor. So it was a challenge again to sister Irma, but because she was driven to do what God is teaching her that day, even when the time to go down, while her husband is guiding her, there are 9-10 steps, but on the last four steps, she used her both legs. It was amazing! God made a miracle that day to her.  God healed her legs and now she said its getting better and better. God had taken her out on the comfort zone to step on faith. One lesson she have learned-Going into mission means going with God.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me…” May God bless us all.
