Eric’s Journey:

I am a product of a Bible Study group in Murphy. When this Bible study started in our area, I consistently attended the studies held every Friday. Pastor Dammy, who was then a Baptist minister of Capitol City Baptist Church (CCBC), was the one who discipled me and invested his time to help me grow as a Christian. I remember seeing this pastor struggle every time he would see me in drinking sessions with my friends. He never confronted me about this sinful act though, but he just kept reminding me that God was not pleased with what I was doing.

One Friday night, during one of our Bible studies, Pastor Dam taught us the importance of memorizing verses in the Bible, especially when sharing God’s love to others. He also shared about Acts 16:31 which says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household.” That verse struck me and gave me a burden to share the love of Christ to my relatives. So, when the opportunity arose, I shared to them the Gospel and most of them accepted Jesus into their hearts as their Lord and Savior. I saw them grow in their walk with God, and some of them even becoming pastors and missionaries, and others are serving Christ faithfully in the Church.

That inspired me more to continue on sharing the good news to other people. I was commissioned by the Church to work as a missionary for the poor. My involvement in the community includes teaching, leading in worship, and youth discipleship. By God’s grace I was also given the opportunity to study in a Bible School. I thank God because in spite of all the problems and struggles in my life He gave me the strength and enabled me to show my love to the people I am ministering to. He even used me to encourage them to show their faith and love to God by following him in baptism. Eventually these same people got involved in the ministry. Indeed, God is faithful; he will enable us to do the assigned task given to us. Phil 4:13 says “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength”.
