STORIES FROM THE SLUMS

Pastor Sonny Team- July 2017

2Ministry Highlights
Last July 18, 2017, our team together with the possible partner pastor, Ptr. Teng, visited the area of Barangay Silangan, San Mateo, Rizal. The community is big but we visited two areas only such as Purok 2 and 3. Purok 2 has more than 1,500 families but they are not urban poor. The community is already established for it has a lot of small scale stores and the houses there are fully cemented. Purok 3 is a small community with 300 families. The people in the community start to improve their houses and have their own water and electric meters. There is an existing home owners association led by Romy Granada, one Day Care Center and one Christian Church. Thus, we cannot plant a church in both mentioned communities as per the CWTP requirements is concerned.

Also, we visited again the barangay in Hi-way 2000, Taytay, Rizal for follow up. This was to make sure if we can possibly plant a church there. We met the president of the home owners association, Emerlita Campipi, and asked some information about the community. She told us that the community has an on-going case in the Supreme Court – Sta Lucia Realty and the community were still fighting on the ownership of the lot property. That’s why they cannot build or improve their houses inside the compound. There are more than 500 families living in that compound. The community is very old and the case mentioned is more than 10 years already. In the end, the CWTP Execom didn’t approve the possible church planting partnership in that area.

The team is still looking for other possible areas for church planting. We have schedules to visit Bulacan, Cavite, Antipolo and Marikina near the river side. From time to time, Sis. Oseth and Sis. Queenie have their own Bible study in their home church, Bro. Sonny attends a regular Wednesday meeting as one of the CWTP Execom members, and Ptr. Paul still continue his foot therapy for fast recovery in the USA.

Prayer Concerns
1.    Find a new possible area for church planting – Cavite, Bulacan, Marikina and Antipolo
2.    Church Partner who’s willing to plant a church in the urban poor community
3.    God’s provision, health and strength for the team in starting a new area Church planting
